Our Supporters
Our primary supporter is the Wright Family Foundation. Through a partnership with the Wright Family Foundation and generous community support, which began in September 2020, we were able to cover our startup costs and begin serving our community.
The Wright Family Foundation has also provided us with our home - a commercial grade kitchen in Te Papaiōea Birthing Centre, where we can safely conduct pasteurising operations and securely store the donor milk.
Our pasteuriser was generously donated by Sir Patrick Higgins. Having such amazing equipment to work with, helps ensure the highest level of safety of our pasteurised donor milk. The Sterifeed T30 Human Milk Pasteuriser was built overseas, especially for Whāngai Ora Milk Bank, and arrived in March 2021.
We have been lucky enough to receive two amazing grants from Sargood Bequest. One grant is specifically allocated towards providing free lactation consults to recipients with the aim of enabling them to maximise their own supply and not go this journey alone. The grants from Sargood Bequest have also enabled us to purchase a new freezer and contribute a significant sum towards a new pasteuriser that has a total cost of $100,000.
We are also supported by Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral (formally MidCentral DHB) who have provided us with valuable support and guidance. We are grateful for the support from the staff at the MidCentral for providing us with documentation resources, medical information and liaising with us to make our milk bank a success. Their support in making our mission to serve the vulnerable pēpi of MidCentral rohe is hugely appreciated.
The fees for our donor blood tests have been generously heavily subsidised by Medlab Central.
Palmerston North City Council (PNCC) granted us a small sum towards our office costs in 2022 that was greatly appreciated as our team had been using our personal home office supplies.
